In 1693 the first ever pictorial survey of Scotland was published by military engineer John Slezer, in his Theatrum Scotiae, a volume of detailed engravings that show important Scottish towns and buildings from over 300 years ago. More than 70 drawings from this collection have now been digitised and made available to view by the National Library of Scotland at http://www.nls.uk/slezer/index.html.
