There appears to be a free access demo to the 19th century British Library newspapers collection and the earlier Burney Collection at http://infotrac.galegroup.com/itweb/britlibtr?id=british - type in test for the password - no idea how long it may last, so suggest the in-like-Flynn strategy...
NB: This includes the 2nd part of the Collection, which includes the Dundee Courier - this is not available via the pay-per-view 19th century site as yet - so honestly, get in quick!

Wonderful link for us "across the pond" - I found a divorce from 1858 and a death inquest (accidental drowning) from 1880. Again many thanks for the notice!
