Comann Eachdraidh Uig on Lewis hosted two experts on Monday on the Lewis Chessmen. Dr David Caldwell from the National Museum of Scotland and Dr Mark Hall from Perth Museum have recently suggested that the pieces were originally found at Mealista, as opposed to Ardroil - many of the locals remain to be convinced!
The society has posted a summary of the theories put to them at the talk on Monday online at www.ceuig.com/archives/1207.
The Lewis Chessmen will be touring Lewis in 2011. Perhaps they should be returned their permanently? Not meaning to rock the boat or anything....!
