The Postgraduate Certificate in Genealogical Studies offered by the University of Strathclyde and the Higher Certificate offered by the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies in Canterbury have now been formally recognised by both bodies as being of an equivalent level. The implication is that those with an IHGS Higher Certificate can, if they choose, seek to join Strathclyde's Postgraduate Diploma, which has until now only been offered to those who have successfully completed the Postgraduate Certificate.
In due course it is hoped that the diplomas offered by both institutions will be similarly recognised, which could make it possible for someone completing the IHGS Diploma to progress onto the university's Masters course, or from the university's Masters onto the IHGS Licentiate.
The holding of the Strathclyde diploma is also now considered an acceptable entry qualification for the professional genealogical body AGRA.
