FindmyPast Ireland update

FindmyPast Ireland has posted a blog update at http://blog.findmypast.ie/?p=22. In truth, it says little other than the team have been busy hiring new staff and getting their initial datsets ready for launch, but useful to know that things are still happening!

It may be worth noting that the new website is in fact a collaboration between FindmyPast/Brightsolid and long standing Dublin based genealogy venture Eneclann (www.eneclann.ie), with several jobs advertisements for marketing executives etc having been placed online in recent weeks describing the partners behind the project. In other words this is not going to be some basic repackaging of FindmyPast UK material, this is instead going to be something quite special.

At the Rootstech conference earlier this year, Eneclann's Brian Donovan described many of the Irish research projects that he was aware of as currently happening - it's a fair bet that some of these are for FMP Ireland. Time to get ever so slightly excited...!

    I am hoping one set on here will be the R.I.C Service Records http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/business/popular_records.htm this page hasn't changed for a long time, but here's hoping !!

    A great many of these records have already been indexed by Ancestry at http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=6087, though not all.

    TNA is very much still intending to digitise the collection, though I've no idea where they will end up online!
