  1. Really looking forward to tomorrow's census release but I'm going to wait till the weekend when I'll have more time and the initial rush will have (hopefully) died down. Didn't the website buckle under the pressure when the 1901 was released 10 years ago? I wasn't researching 10 years ago but I seem to remember news reports about the website not being able to cope?

I'll be able to see what my grandparents and their brothers and sisters were doing as their first jobs.

  2. That was the English and Welsh 1901 census, as launched by the National Archives at Kew. It was their first census release, and they had no idea what was awaiting them in terms of demand! Site went down for several months, and after that the work was outsourced.

I don't think it's ever happened with Scotland - but the last census release was a few years back, and a few more people are interested now! The site is managed by Brightsolid, so I'll be stunned if it does go down!

We've been waiting a hundred years. I suppose a few more hours won't hurt! lol

  4. Will the whole 1911 census be released at 11am or will it just start to dribble out a bit at a time from then?

  5. Possibly - though I'm guessing more like a soft launch at a time when most folk are at work!

  6. Oh almost certainly all released at once - we're only a wee country population wise!

  7. Site is down as at 10am, is that just because they've taken it offline as they upload the census?
