Perth's new Jacobite database

Perth and Kinross Archives have launched a new Jacobites Database on their website at www.pkc.gov.uk/Education+and+learning/Libraries+archives+and+learning+centres/Archives/Archive+collections/Topics+online/JacobitesinPerthshire.htm

From the site:

The Archive holds documents relating to the Jacobite rebellions and activities in Perthshire, and a Friends volunteer has created a database which has gathered them all together. Through the database you can contain find which collections and documents are about the Jacobites, and details from the original records about those who were involved.

  1. Thank you so much for posting this Chris. I've found several references to two of my 6x great grandfathers, Charles Hay, Baillie of Coupar Angus, and David Clark, vintner there. As Baillie, Charles Hay was forced to help the rebels under threat of violence, then arrested and prosecuted for doing so, then released and sat in judgment on other prisoners. What a roller coaster ride for a small town writer. David Clark also managed to find himself both accused and giving evidence against others, since both sides seem to have gravitated to his shop to drink whenever they were in Coupar Angus!

  2. I actually came across the Charles Hay entries earlier, as I was trying to find out about one of my lot, Lachlan Hay. Glad it helped.

  3. Was Lachlan Hay a Perthshire or Angus man? My Hays have links to Dunkeld, Clunie, Glenisla and Leitfie, near Alyth, as well as Coupar Angus. I'm having such a hard time researching them because of the common surname and because I'm back before the OPRs in some parishes. Occupations include writer / factor / doctor / tenant farmer and dyer, so they appear in some records but not in the lovely sasines and retours :-(

  5. Found an ancestor of mine who denounced some Jacobites. The news isn't going to sit well with some relatives!
