This looks an interesting read! Vivienne Dunstan submitted a thesis last year to the University of Dundee for a Doctor of Philosophy degree, entitled Reading habits in Scotland circa 1750–1820. The thesis is now freely available online in PDF format at https://discovery.dundee.ac.uk/bitstream/handle/10588/4557/combined.pdf?sequence=1
(With thanks to Vivienne Dunstan and Debbie Kennett on Google+)
