The indexes for English and Welsh marriages are now fully transcribed and searchable up to 2005 through the Ancestry website at www.ancestry.co.uk.
As was previously the case with birth indexes, and still the case with death records, the marriage indexes previously were indexed by first and last names on a page up to 1983. Now each is individually indexed, and you can search with a spouse's name also. Death records will be the next to appear. The project is in collaboration with FreeBMD - they've transcribed the records up to 1915, Ancestry has done the rest from 1916 onwards to 1983, after which they are fully indexed due to the different way that records from that year on were recorded.
In short folks, it's another minor revolution with English and Welsh research, making life a lot easier. Now if only the GRO would get the DOVE project back up and running (Digitisation of Vital Events)...
Nice one Ancestry.
