I think this is terrible news for those(like myself) who work Monday-Friday.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not the greatest news to have emerged from the Mitchell in a long while!

Chris,I had a wee argument with Dr O'Brien approx 2 yrs ago about this subject and it was clear to me that they wanted (on a Saturday)'' A quiet day ''!
ReplyDeleteThey really didn't like us turning-up at the week-end and making the staff 'work' for their pay-cheque !
Och ! I'm gettin' aff ma soap-box !
Definitely not fair to those who work Mon-Fri. Why not take a leaf out of book of the National Archives at Kew - close on Mondays and open on Saturdays?
ReplyDeleteOch well!
Chris
I think it's a national disgrace and yet another embarrassment for Glasgow.....My letter of complaint has been duly lodged.............
ReplyDeleteDo let me know the response!

Chris,Here is my email response from the GDC.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Airlie,
I reply to your recent email concerning the temporary changes to the opening hours of Archives. These opening hours will be in place for the next 8 weeks until the end of December and are due to a delay in the filling of a staff vacancy which will be resolved in the New Year.
I apologise for any inconvenience this causes.
If there is a piece of research that are you working on then please contact Archives who will discuss with you how this may be progressed.
Yours sincerely,
Marion Beaton
That's excellent news Jock, thanks - I'll update the original post to direct people to this.
