An exhibition is currently underway at the National Archives of Scotland's West Register House on Charlotte Square, Edinburgh, entitled An Open Secret. The exhibition looks at the Government's changing attitudes to records and information closures, and runs until June 2010.
The Scottish Government and the NAS have also just released 4000 Government documents from 1979 to 1983 which should have been closed for 30 years, but now released early. 7000 more files will be disclosed between now and May 2010.
The NAS wbesite describes the release as follows:
"Files released in this phase cover topics as diverse as closures of traditional heavy industries (e.g. shipbuilding, steel and engineering); new developments in public health and housing, education and tourism, the development of the enterprise culture and consideration of the first Devolution proposals."
