The Islands Book Trust has announced further details on its emigration conference, to take place in South Harris from Thursday 10th-Saturday 12th September 2009, as part of Scotland's Year of Homecoming.
The conference will bring together expert speakers covering the main destination areas of Hebridean emigration overseas (eg Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Patagonia) with local people and those returning to visit the land of their ancestors. Speakers will include Professor Tom Devine, Margaret Bennett, Bill and Chris Lawson, and Greta Mackenzie. A full programme will be announced later this Autumn. Accommodation and meals can be arranged locally for those who require it.
