Aberdeenshire family history fairs in July

News of two big genealogical fairs in Aberdeenshire next month:

Crathes Castle Family History Fair
Crathes, by Banchory, Aberdeenshire, 10th and 11th July 2010 (entry to family history fair is free: entry to Castle and gardens at usual National Trust for Scotland rates)

This new event will take place at Crathes Castle on Saturday the 10th and Sunday 11th July between 10:30am and 4:30pm. Organisations from across Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire will be represented, including the Aberdeen and North East Scotland Family History Society, Registrars of births marriages and deaths, the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives and the Northern Health Services Archive. If you have ancestral roots in the North East of Scotland this is the perfect event to find out more about your family tree from the knowledgeable staff who will be on hand to answer queries and perhaps help you unearth that elusive skeleton in the family closet! Set in the wonderful grounds of Crathes Castle, there will be talks from professionals and experienced volunteers in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere throughout the two days.


Aberdeen Tartan Day Local and Family History Fair
Civic Rooms, Town House, Broad Street, Saturday 31st July 2010, 10:00am - 4:30pm (free entry)

Set in the stunning civic rooms of the Victorian Town House, this local and family history fair is a regular feature in the City’s Tartan Day events and draws a big crowd of participants and visitors alike from across both Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire. With experts on hand from organisations including the Aberdeen and North East Scotland Family History Society, the University of Aberdeen, the Registrars service and Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Archives, this is the ideal event to kick-start your family history research or find out more about the amazing resources that are available in the North East of Scotland. With music and tours of the Town House thrown in for free, this is much more than just a family history fair!
