Scottish registration news

In the midst of registering my father's death this week in North Ayrshire, I had a chat with the registrar about how things were going generally with the registration service during the pandemic.

One thing that came up in the conversation was that because of Covid restrictions, it has not been possible to send the returns through for certification at the National Records of Scotland, at which point the indexes are placed online through ScotlandsPeople. So for now at least, when ScotlandsPeople centres offer access again at some point again in the future, the most recent records currently available are for 2019.

Something to be aware of!

  1. That can't be entirely true.... My Dad died 18/12/2020 and his death was registered by phone with the Glasgow registrar on 22/12/2020. His death was showing on the Scotland's People index (online) by I think mid January 2021. I have no idea whether the same is true for the index accessed from a Scotland's People centre though.

  2. It's possible it may be the council area I was engaged with (North Ayrshire).

  3. Also possible that the index is online, but not the actual image (which is accessible at a SP centre)
