FindmyPast's new search facility

Away from the new FindmyPast Ireland site, FindmyPast.co.uk continues to work on the original British site with a new search facility for birth and marriage records.

Until now there have been several searchable databases on the site for English and Welsh civil BMDs from 1837-2006, and the overseas GRO indexes, which include lots of records for Scots who may have served abroad as soldiers, in colonial service and more. These have all now been consolidated into one much more easily manageable database. You can now search by geographic area around the world (including Scotland), though no longer by collection type (e.g. Army chaplain returns). The returned results do indicate the source collection though.

The full story is on the FindmyPast blog at http://blog.findmypast.co.uk/2011/05/a-single-search-for-all-our-births-and-marriages/. No doubt the updated death records databases will be similarly repackaged in due course once added to the site.
