Family Tree Live event to return in May 2027

From the UK's Family Tree magazine:

Family Tree Live returns with two-day celebration of family history

Family Tree Live, the UK’s leading live event for family historians, will return on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 May 2027, bringing expert genealogy advice, specialist exhibitors and immersive social history experiences to the unique setting of Statfold Country Park, home of Statfold Narrow Gauge Museum & National Fairground Museum, just outside of Tamworth, West Midlands.

Organised by Warners Group Publications, the company behind leading genealogy brand Family Tree, and sponsored by Ancestry, the global leader in family history, the two-day event is designed to inspire everyone from beginners to experienced researchers.

The event combines talks from leading genealogists in a dedicated lecture theatre, an exhibition hall of specialist family history providers, and hands-on social history attractions that bring the past vividly to life. Visitors can explore the National Fairground Museum, the Roundhouse locomotive museum and enjoy rides on the site’s much-loved narrow-gauge railways, creating a truly engaging, family-friendly experience.

‘We’re so excited to be relaunching Family Tree Live,’ said Matt Hill, Media Publisher of Family Tree. ‘The first event back in 2019 was a huge success but circumstances meant we were forced to explore online alternatives the following year. Now, with increasing demand for in-person events, we’re delighted to be able to relaunch the show at such a beautiful – and fun – heritage venue.’

The theme for Family Tree Live 2027 is ‘Your family story through time’, placing storytelling at the heart of the event and encouraging visitors to see their research as a journey across generations. The theme makes full use of the venue’s unique heritage attractions, helping family history feel immersive, accessible and engaging.

"Ancestry is delighted to be the headline sponsor for the return of Family Tree Live. Family history is fundamentally about connection, and there is nothing quite like the energy of the genealogy community coming together in person. This year’s theme, ‘Your family story through time,’ perfectly mirrors our mission to help everyone discover, preserve and share their family history. Whether visitors are just starting their journey or further exploring family connections, we are proud to help attendees bring their ancestors' stories to life." — Guljeet Samra, Senior Director of Marketing, Ancestry

A central feature of the event will be an interactive Family Story Trail, inviting visitors to uncover family history clues across four themed zones covering military ancestors, newspapers, DNA, and old occupations.

Family Tree Content Editor Helen Tovey said: ‘We’re absolutely delighted to see Family Tree Live on the calendar. It’s definitely going to be a family history event not to be missed. With a fabulous programme of talks, fascinating and super-helpful experts on-hand to help you explore your family tree, exhibitor and nostalgia attractions to enjoy, it’s going to be an absolute genealogy treat. We can’t wait to see you there!’

Family Tree Live 2027 is expected to attract thousands of attendees from across the UK and beyond, drawn from an active and highly engaged family history community. The event also offers a wide range of exhibitor and sponsorship opportunities, from table-top stands to larger shell scheme spaces, and tailored sponsorship packages.

The Family History Show Online - 26th September 2020

News of an online event coming soon down south:

The Family History Show, Online returns 26th September 2020

The Family History Show, Online, run by Discover Your Ancestors, returns on Saturday 26th September 2020 in place of the London Family History Show for this year. Building on the huge success of the first online Family History Show in June, where over a thousand attendees enjoyed a great day, the next one is on track to be even better!

Online access means that we are all able to safely enjoy many of the usual features of the physical show from wherever we are in the world, as well as making it possible for those that have disabilities to easily attend.

The Family History Show, Online will, mirroring the format of the very successful live shows, feature an online lecture theatre, the popular ‘Ask the expert’ area – where you can put questions forward to their specialists – as well as over 100 stalls where you can ask for advice as well as buy genealogical products.

Q&A Expert Session

Attendees are invited to submit questions via the website and a selection will be put forward to the panel in a multiuser Zoom session that is streamed on a linked video channel for the show.

Visit stalls and chat

To make this online experience as useful to family historians as attending the physical show would have been, you can “visit” a stall in the virtual exhibition hall. With over 100 present there will be a wide variety of societies and companies.

Built into the website is the ability to talk to some of the stallholders by text, audio or video from the comfort of your own home. With this facility, you can ask them for advice regarding their family history society or discuss their organisation and also purchase from their online stall various downloadable and physical products to help you with your research.

Lectures

In the virtual lecture theatre there will be the chance to watch new talks from the same expert lecturers who would have been at the physical event and are on the ‘Ask the Expert’ panel. These presentations will cover a wide variety of family history topics from DNA to how to find family information in military records. All of these videos are subtitled.

Feedback from the last Family History Show, Online:

“The Exhibitor Hall, with the video chat and Question Feed, and details and links to their products, etc. Your show is a very close, and in some ways better, reproduction of the live event, and I’m looking forward to attending next year’s event.” Scott Barker

“I know the actual shows are great, but for us not able to get there, these online days are ideal. I put aside time to listen and it felt like a 'day away' from the usual routine. Well done and thank you.” Ruth Owen

“I understand there must have been a lot of planning for the event under such tricky circumstances and it was absolutely superb in the end. Thank you very much for a really good day, your experts were helpful and I thoroughly enjoyed hearing their advice and information.” Sue Farley

Thank you so much for a great show. Learnt a lot and the experts were very interesting to listen to. Special thanks to Amelia Bennett. Looking forward to September. Keep safe” Irene Baldock

Tickets to attend the next online Family History Show on 26th September 2020 are available now for just £6.00 each (£8.00 on the day). All ticket holders will also receive a digital Goody Bag worth over £10 on the day.

Family Tree Live has been cancelled

Another huge disappointment, but perhaps equally expected, is the cancellation today of Family Tree Live, (www.family-tree.co.uk/family-tree-live/), scheduled to take place in April:

Family Tree Live – Covid-19 cancellation announcement

It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of Family Tree Live.

The show was due to have been held on 17 & 18 April 2020 at Alexandra Palace. Due to the current health implications concerning the Covid-19 pandemic, we have no choice but to put the well being of all concerned first, and cancel our two-day family history show.

We would like to thank sincerely the many people and organisations who have put considerable time and effort into organising the event and apologise for this disappointing but unavoidable news.

Notably we would like to thank our show partner, the Family History Federation, our show sponsors, FamilySearch and FamilyTreeDNA, our one-to-one expert advisors the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives, our lecturers and workshop tutors, our much-appreciated volunteers, our trade exhibitors and our supporting family history societies, and of course those who have bought tickets to attend the show.

We have explored potential dates later this year for a show but none are currently viable in the uncertain climate we are all facing at the moment.

We will be contacting all those mentioned above with further details regarding the cancellation as respects refunds or alternative options.

Family Tree does certainly look forward to organising further family history events in the future and we would be delighted to welcome you to them in healthier times to come. In the meantime, keep safe.
