As mentioned on this blog on February 28th (http://scottishancestry.blogspot.com/2011/02/wdytya-some-news.html), the new name for the merged body created from the General Register Office for Scotland and the National Archives of Scotland is to be the National Records of Scotland.
A bit more detail now from the Scottish Archives blog at http://scottisharchives.org.uk/?p=262 - the new body will exist from April 1st, and its strapline will be "preserving the past; recording the present; informing the future".
Personally I quite like the new name - punchy, and does what it says on the tin!

Yes, agree it's a good name. Can never remember what GROS stands for and the acronym is not the happiest if you say it out loud!
ReplyDeleteWhy they couldn't use 'Scottish Record Office', as it used to be. Bet they've still got stationary with that on it - imagine the money they'd save!
