Scottish civil registration records talk for genealogists

If you were not able to attend the Scottish Indexes (www.scottishindexes.com) conference yesterday online, you'll find my talk on Scottish civil registration records presented below, and also at https://youtu.be/boU7BRlVGp8

The conference was a heck of a lot of fun, all kudos to Emma and Graham Maxwell for organising it, and for all those who participated.

One of the most interesting discoveries for me concerned the amount of Roman Catholic records for Scotland that there are on FindmyPast. I knew it had more records than ScotlandsPeople, but no idea how much more - Myko Clelland revealed that ScotlandsPeople currently hosts 1.18 million Scottish Catholic records, but that FMP has 2.03 million, and is still scanning. He also mentioned that a further 8 million Scottish records will be online via FMP later this year, so watch this space!

A great day, and I look forward to seeing further similar ventures in the future.

NB: Civil registration is covered in considerably more detail in my book Tracing Your Scottish Ancestry Through Church and State Records, available to buy at https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Tracing-Your-Scottish-Ancestry-through-Church-and-State-Records-Paperback/p/16848.
