I've just received the first ever Recording Angels newsletter, the body which is attempting to preserve as much information as possible from Midlothian's memorials. The group's latest release is a 204 page book on the parish of Cockpen - Cockpen Parish Monumental Inscriptions and other Associated Records, containing information on memorials from the parish kirks of Cockpen and Bonnyrigg, and from Our Lady of Consolation and St Leonards. The book also has info from Lasswade High School and George V Park.
The book costs £9 +£2 p&p and is available from Recording Angels, c/o Local Studies, Library Headquarters, 2 Clerk Street, Loanhead, EH20 9DR. Cheques payable to Recording Angels.
For more on the organisation - which is always seeking new volunteers! - see www.recordingangels.org.uk.
(With thanks to Veronica McCulloch.)
