Bristol nonconformist records added to Ancestry

Ancestry (www.ancestry.co.uk) has added the following collections for one of England's finest cities (indulge me, I studied and worked there for six years!):

Bristol, England, Non-Conformist Baptism, Marriage and Burial Registers, 1644-1981

This Collection

This collection comprises baptism, marriage and burial records from Non-Conformist congregations in the Bristol area. These include Roman Catholic, Methodist, Quaker, Presbyterian, Wesleyan, Congregationalist, Baptist, Unitarian, and other denominations.

These records may be particularly useful for researchers who can’t find their relatives among Church of England records. Also, note that these records do not necessarily represent a comprehensive collection of Non-Conformist records for Bristol. For example, some registers may have been sent to The National Archives in accordance with an 1837 request, while others remained with the church or congregation.

Records vary over time and by denomination or congregation, but they may provide some of the following details where available:
  • name
  • event date
  • birth date
  • death date
  • gender
  • parents’ names
  • trade or profession (typically father’s)
  • abode
  • parish

NB: It looks like it may spread out a bit further than just Bristol - I see records for Weston-Super-Mare there, for example.

The following Bristol collections have also been updated:
  • Bristol, England, Church of England Baptisms, 1813-1918
  • Bristol, England, Church of England Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812
  • Bristol, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1935
  • Bristol, England, Church of England Burials, 1813-1994
